News from the Clubhouse

What does June bring besides “gloom” cool breezy mornings before the temperature starts to climb into the 90”s flowers blooming, birds chirping and a crispest to the air. All of this before 8:0 clock. The sun raises are beautiful along with our sunsets out here at the course!

Our hours are from 6:00 to 8:00. Please call or make a tee time, you can do this up to 2 months in advance. By doing this it assures you a time and day to start and not have to wait or go to the range which for some the range would be a great starting point to the game. “Golf is like a chain. You always have to work on the weakest links”

We have been getting quite a lot of compliments about our new carpet on the deck to the club house. We like it! it should wear fairly well, even with all the wind, sun and wear and tear from walking on it.

SNAKES are once again out and looking for warm spots so please be careful when going off the course to look for your ball you just might meet up with a slimy snake basking in the sun. We usually see them on #2 and #9.

Stop in and eat we after you play or before and even during, we have hot dogs, polish dogs and on the weekends a crock pot full of chili cooking, along with a full variety of beers and sodas. Not in the mood for a meal there are all kinds of snacks available to take out on the course. Need tees, balls, ball markers shirts, hats and gloves come in next time you’re out here and look around, don’t see what you are looking for ask us and we will try and get it for you. If you’re playing in the heat of the day please keep yourself hydrated by drinking water or something cool. We carry all kinds of beverage inside the club house there are also 2 coolers on the course one on #4 and #7 tee boxes. We keep these filled with ice and cold water.

Thinking of getting together with friends to play make it a tournament and invite friends from work or family we will help you host a tournament. We also have a Men’s Club that play Tuesday, Thursday and Sun come out and play as a guest with them to see if you would like to join. They play a variety of games and have quite a few members. All three days start at 8:00. Show up around 7:30.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers out there!

On Memorial Day, we hosted the Mulligan tournament. Each player got one mulligan or “do-over” on every hole. There was a lot of fun and a lot of low scores. We had 17 golfers, 6 in the low handicap flight, 5 in the high handicap flight and 6 in the Peoria Flight. A few golfers didn’t play because they “couldn’t post the score” per SCGA.

But does every round of golf have to be dead serious? Occasionally, it’s great just to go out and enjoy the day and have fun. When you play with the work buddies, or wife or kids, why not make it more fun? Speaking from personal experience, one of the most enjoyable rounds I ever had was when I took my girlfriend’s granddaughter, who was 12 at the time, out to play her first round of golf. She had hit on the driving range a few times and wanted to try it. So we went out and played. The first thing I told her was, “We do not have to observe all the rules of golf today. We are here for fun. We can pick up our ball anytime we want and go to the next hole.” We played from the red Junior tees to make it easier and take a lot of trouble out of the way. She had a great time and learned a lot that day. But the one thing I most remember that day was when we were walking down Hole #6. She turned and said to me, “Mr. Bob, I think I know why you like golf so much.” I was curious to hear. “Why, Allie?” “The grass looks nice and there’s lot of trees, it’s very relaxing. It’s nice and quiet out here.” I had to agree with her assessment.

FUTURE LPGA player Allie hits on the #2 green.

I took her out a few more times and she really enjoyed it. The highlight of her golf career was on #4. “Mr. Bob, I HIT IT OVER THE WATER!” We should all look for the small enjoyments of golf like that.

Allie’s proud moment!

The Rancho Sierra Mens Club has quite a few activities planned on the horizon. The CR Smith Memorial Tournament, originally scheduled for June 25, will be re-scheduled to a date in July TBA. CR Smith was a long-time member and former President of the Mens Club for many years. His son, Jon has procured many prizes for this tournament. All golfers are welcomed to participate!

Mens Club Meeting on July 2! The Mens Club will be discussing many upcoming events including the CR Smith Memorial Tournament, an away trip to Elkins Ranch in Fillmore and Crystallaire Golf Course in Llano and the return of the Club Championship. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 followed by the regular Sunday tournament.
