News from the Clubhouse

We have finally had a few days where it is actually nice to play anytime of the day, not many but a few helps with a little relief from the triple digits we were feeling.

We still have our “Summer Sizzler” special going, which is between 12pm and 3pm your green fee is 50% off, not for carts just green fees. Our twilight is at 3pm and 9 holes plus is at 5pm. A little cooler at those times.

Please call or make a tee time, you can do this up to 2 months in advance. By doing this it assures you a time and day to start and not have to wait or go to the range which for some the range would be a great starting point to the game. Speaking of the range we do have Range Cards $49.95 for 30 days of unlimited use of the range. You can choose any size bucket, spend the day if you need that much practice or drop in once or twice a week. Stop in and eat we after you play or before and even during, we have hot dogs, polish dogs and on the weekends a crock pot full of chili cooking, along with a full variety of beers and sodas. Not in the mood for a meal there are all kinds of snacks available to take out on the course. Need tees, balls, ball markers, shirts, hats and gloves come in next time you’re out here and look around, don’t see what you are looking for ask us and we will try and get it for you.

With school starting up it would be a great time to plan a tournament or just play in a group of friends or co-workers.. We also have a Men’s Club that play Tuesday, Thursday and Sun come out and play as a guest with them to see if you would like to join. They play a variety of games and have quite a few members.

We try and keep everyone updated on any tournaments we may be hosting at the course for info call the pro shop and they will give you the times and days if we have any scheduled.

Please be courteous and allow faster players to play through everyone wants to keep the pace up and by not letting faster players through it backs up the whole course. If you’re in a group of 5 which is up to the discretion of the starter you must let faster players to go through unless the course is so full there is no room or empty tee boxes.

Mens Club News

The Dog Days of Summer are upon us. The course is looking great! The greens and fairways are getting plenty of water and attention from the grounds crew which make a much more enjoyable round of golf. The weather can be very hot at times but proper preparation and hydration will over come it. Remember this weather when we have frost delays this winter!!

To celebrate the end of summer, Rancho Sierra will host a Red, White, and Blue Tournament. This tournament is open to ALL golfers – male and female, members and non-members, those with and without a handicap!!! $10 buy-in includes low net by flight and closest to the pin contests. Green fees are paid directly to the course. Here’s the format: Holes 1-6 – tee off from the white tee markers, Holes 7-12 tee off from the red tee markers, and Holes 13-18 tee off from the blue tee markers. Check in is 7:15, tournament meeting and tee assignments at 7:45 and shotgun start at 8:00.

Summer Classic scheduled for September 17

The Fall Classic, our quarterly High-Low, Draw-for- Partners, Best Ball Tournament, is scheduled for Sunday, September 17. Your $50 Entry fee is due by 5 pm on Friday, September 15 when the draw will be held. You can either give your fee to Club Secretary, Bob Gonzales, or you can put your fee in an envelope and deposit it in the white box above the computer in the clubhouse. Side pots and parimutuals will be available to increase your chances of being a winner. Lunch will also be provided.

Golfer of the Year Tournament to be held October 1

You still have time to qualify for the Golfer of the Year Tournament on October 1. There are still a few opportunities left in August and all of September to qualify for Golfer of the Month. All of the previous Golfers of the Month, along with last year’s winners will compete for the honor of 2017 Golfer of the Year. To be considered for Golfer of the Month, you must give your $1 entry fee to the starter prior to your round (the round must be played during a Mens Club event.) At the end of the month, your score will be compared with others in your flight by our Handicap Chairman. The low flight is for handicaps 18 and under and the high flight is for handicaps 19 and over. Low score wins!

August and September traditionally have fewer entrants into the Golfer of the Month since many of the members have already qualified so you have a better chance to win! In July, our Golfer of the Month won with a NET (not scratch) 77! That’s the first score above 70 to have ever won Golfer of the Month!

Club Championship

The Club Championship is currently under way and will conclude on August 20. The members are competing in best 3 rounds out of 4 format with the low net total winning the 2017 Club Championship! The Club Champion will represent the Rancho Sierra Mens Club in the SCGA Tournament of Champions in Palm Springs later this year.

Golf Tips

Drills for a Strong Swing Finish

From GolfersRXNews (www.golfersrx.com), we bring you a few drills to help maintain a balanced swing throughout your shot.

An unbalanced finish usually results in a very poor shot.
And it’s all too common in high handicappers and amateur golfers…. and maybe you!

Pros, on the other hand, almost always finish in a balanced position and they hold it until the ball lands.

That’s because they are in tremendous shape. Holding that position, which can definitely be taxing on the body, is easy for them.

In this Fitness video, Mark is going to show you how to achieve a similar balanced fitness to the pros.

A few quick stretches will make all the difference and leave you with a more confident, powerful swing.
