Welcome!

Hi everyone,

Wow, it’s starting to look pretty nice out there!  Now that the spring aeration has been completed (hearty shout out to Jose, Pedro and our friends at AVCC), the course will soon be looking abso-fantastic.

Have you seen the changes we’ve made to the range?  With Paul’s help, we’ve been doing little things to make your practice more effective.  I know the nets are still quite the eyesore, but be assured it is on my list.  For now, please be careful where you park.  We’ve roped off part of the parking lot so those slicers out there won’t hit you or your vehicle.

Our new trees are settling in nicely – have you noticed our Modesto Ash trees now have leaves?  It’s the little things that make me happy.

And finally, for those of you who think I live and breathe Rancho Sierra (although you’d be right :-), here’s me on my latest foray into half-marathons.  Recognize the background?

News from the Clubhouse

The greens have been aerated this month, it is a twice a year job that needs to be done to improve both the greens and tee boxes. So far we have only done the greens. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause during your play at the course.

Whew! This wind just doesn’t want to stop and the cold is still here with it. I am so ready for warmer weather (not hot) but we won’t have much of a choice. “When the ducks are walking, you know it is too windy to be playing golf!”

Please try and fix your divots and while doing yours please fix one more! Every little bit helps the course especially on the greens.

We are not into telling on someone but if it is harming the course or another player please let the starter know or very nicely ask them to not do it, you the golfers are the ones who benefit from having a nice course.

It’s tournament time and we have a busy summer ahead of us so if you want to plan a golf outing be sure to get in and make arrangements with us before that day is taken. We can handle a small outing from 12 to 20 or bigger up to 50 players. For a deposit down and enough golfers we can close the course for you;  we ask that there be at least 36 golfers, we would prefer more during your tournament. We have packages that include food, goody bags and prizes.

Have a great April and May and golf as much as you can. lf you have a friend who hasn’t signed up for our Newsletter please tell them so they can read about all our events, specials and get all our News Blasts straight from us. By signing up or registering on our web site, they receive 50% off their next green fee when they print and turn in the coupon, or show it to us on their phones.  One per person (not email address) please.

We are getting a lot of ball, clubs and bags into the pro shop, don’t see what you want please ask Paul the teaching instructor or inquire at the desk and we will do our best to get it for you.

Thank you for letting us know how much you enioy playing at Rancho Sierra Golf Coursel!

Be good, have fun on the course and tell a friend!

Tips from Our Pro

Hello Valued Members & Guests!

Have you been working hard on the swing – But still feel like you’re not getting the results you deserve?
When is the last time that you’ve had a fitting done? If you answered more than 2 years ago…Then you should probably set one up.
Here is a quick guide of what is checked during a fitting and what the improper specs could result in:
Length – If clubs are too long you could bottom out too soon or create a flatter swing to accommodate length (Distance thief) If clubs are too short you may be bent over too far with the possibility of hitting thin shots as a norm or having improper posture throughout the swing. (Hard to regulate the distance your shot will go)
Lie – If the lie of the clubs at impact are off it can create a push or even a hook due to improper interaction with the turf. (No accuracy)
Grip Size – An incorrect grip thickness can create issues – If the grip is too thick we have a lack of release – One which is too thin can create a right to left ball flight. (Unable to stay in the fairway)
Shaft Flex/Weight/Kick Point: Any of these items can effect the distance the ball travels – The trajectory of the ball – Or how hard you have to work during the swing. (Lack of distance – Very little accuracy – High/Low ball flight – Have to swing out of your FootJoys to get any results)
Bounce – The incorrect amount of bounce on your wedges can lead to thin shots on tight lies or not enough will make it hard to dig the ball out when you have to go after it. (No consistency from 80 yards and in)
Yardage Gaps – So many golfers have their bag stacked at the top with about 3 clubs that all hit about the same distance or the exact opposite with 4 wedges…But very little swing speed or experience of what each is intended for. (When this happens there is a lack of commitment which can create confusion on which club to pull for the shot…This is usually a recipe to a duffed attempt and a waste of money)
Set up a fitting and be pleasantly surprised at how your game can change if you stay OPEN MINDED to the suggestions which are made.
You can have a great swing but if the clubs are not fit properly – The results can be marginal.
You can have a marginal swing – But if the clubs are fit properly – The results can be GREAT!
